Sholay is coming back in style to the cinemas, and, without a doubt, it is one of the major Bollywood events of 2025. Fans will be able to watch the timeless film exactly as director Ramesh Sippy had envisioned it, including its original ending.
What in the world is this re-release?
The new edition goes by the name "Sholay: The Final Cut" and was restored in a very sharp 4K resolution with Dolby 5.1 sound. Theatres will, for the very first time, present the uncut climax that was edited before the 1975 release during the Emergency era.
Release date and theatre details
It has been confirmed by Sippy Films and the Film Heritage Foundation that Sholay: The Final Cut will be in cinemas all over India on 12 December 2025. The film is set to a colossal rollout of about 1,500 screens with the top chains like PVR and INOX leading the way.

Why this re-release matters
As Sholay turned 50 in 2025, the crew wanted a whole new generation to meet Jai, Veeru, and Gabbar at the big screen. The recent trial screenings and anniversary shows had tickets that vanished in no time which is proof that the film’s dialogues, music, and action are still very much alive for today’s audience.
What fans can expect in theatres
Them seeing the film will be of richer colors, sharper images, and a sound that lets them hear each gunshot, train whistle, and R.D. Burman beat in detail. To fans who have seen it over and over, the never-seen original ending is the most attractive point, while the newbies get a flawless entrance to the greatest Indian masala entertainer of all time.
