Ajay Devgn-Rakul Preet Singh Starrer De De Pyaar De 2
Fails To Hold After Decent Weekend!

Ajay Devgn is back with the much-hyped sequel to his 2019 rom-com hit, and it started off on a promising note. De De Pyaar De 2 hit theatres on November 14 with loads of excitement – after all, who doesn't love a good age-gap love story mixed with family drama and laughs? The film brings back Ajay as the charming 50-something Ashish Mehra and Rakul Preet Singh as his fiery young girlfriend Ayesha. This time, the chaos shifts to winning over Ayesha's family, with R Madhavan stepping in as her protective dad, adding that perfect dose of tension and humour.

The opening weekend looked solid. Fans turned up, word-of-mouth was decent, and everyone thought this could be another breezy winner for Ajay after a mixed year. Friday kicked off with Rs 8.75 crore, Saturday jumped nicely to Rs 12.25 crore thanks to weekend vibes, and Sunday peaked at Rs 13.75 crore. That's a healthy Rs 34.75 crore in just three days – better than many expected for a non-action rom-com in today's market.

But then came Monday, the real litmus test for any film. And oh boy, it was a rude shock! According to the latest figures from industry tracker Sacnilk, De De Pyaar De 2 crashed hard on Day 4, collecting only Rs 4.25 crore. That's a massive drop of almost 70% from Sunday's numbers! The four-day total now stands at a disappointing Rs 39 crore. With all the star power – Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, Rakul Preet Singh – plus the goodwill from the first film that crossed Rs 100 crore lifetime, this sharp fall has left trade experts scratching their heads.

Why The Huge Drop? Occupancy Tells The Story

Theatres screening Ajay Devgn's De De Pyaar De 2 were practically empty on Monday. Overall Hindi occupancy dipped to a low 9.96%. Morning shows barely touched 6.53%, afternoon picked up slightly to 9.42%, evening hovered at 10.07%, and even night shows closed at just 13.82%.

Big cities didn't save the day either – Delhi-NCR, with over 1,421 shows, managed only 9.5% full seats, while Mumbai (840 shows) did a tad better at 13.75%. Clearly, the weekday crowd stayed away, perhaps waiting for OTT or just not excited enough to rush back.

It's a classic case of front-loaded weekend collections. Positive reviews praised the funny family clashes, Madhavan's brilliant comic timing, and Ajay-Rakul's crackling chemistry. But maybe the story felt a bit repetitive, or competition from holdovers pulled audiences away.

How Does It Compare To Ajay's Recent Hits?

On the bright side, it's already ahead of Ajay's Son of Sardaar 2, which struggled to Rs 27.1 crore in its first four days. But that's not saying much. Look at his bigger successes: Raid 2 zoomed to Rs 71.25 crore by Day 4 (helped by an extended weekend), and the supernatural thriller Shaitaan with Madhavan hit Rs 61.25 crore in the same timeframe. Even the original De De Pyaar De was stronger back in 2019, reaching Rs 44.73 crore by this point.

2025 has been a monster year for Bollywood biggies. Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 blasted past Rs 100 crore in just four days. Aamir Khan's emotional Sitaare Zameen Par, despite a slow start, grabbed Rs 66.65 crore. Salman Khan's much-criticised Sikandar still powered to Rs 84.25 crore, and Ayushmann Khurrana's mixed-review festive release Thamma collected Rs 65.6 crore. In this lineup, De De Pyaar De 2 looks underwhelming – it's struggling to keep pace with the heavy hitters.

Tough Competition Ahead – Can It Recover?

The road doesn't get easier. Over the next three weeks, theatres will welcome big releases like 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishq Mein, Gustaakh Ishq, and Dhurandhar. These could eat into screens and audience interest. For De De Pyaar De 2 to cross even Rs 80-100 crore lifetime (like the first one did), it needs strong holds on weekdays and a big jump next weekend. Positive buzz from families and couples could help, but right now, the Monday crash has raised flop alarms.

Trade analysts are buzzing that if it doesn't stabilise soon, it might end as an average affair at best. Ajay Devgn has delivered blockbusters this year, but rom-coms are tricky – they rely heavily on repeat value and feel-good vibes. Fans loved the laughs and emotional moments, with many calling Madhavan the scene-stealer. Yet, the numbers don't lie.

Will Ajay's star power and the film's fun quotient pull it through? Or will it fade away quietly? Early trends for Tuesday are also looking slow, but miracles happen in Bollywood! Stay glued for more updates – this box office battle is far from over. What do you think – hit or miss? Share your views! 🎬🍿
