If you thought fighting terrorists was a tough job, wait till you see how Srikant Tiwari fights with his own hilarious reactions to Gen Z language. A clip of the popular web series The Family Man is getting viral again on various social media platforms. It demonstrates the plight of Indian parents who desperately want to stay updated with their socially enlightened kids but end up being left behind in the dust themselves.
In this widely shared video, the youngest son, Atharv, the one who never loses his curiosity, tries to make his father understand why his sister Dhriti is always angry, which later turns into a discussion that leaves poor Srikant totally perplexed.
The scene opens with Atharv saying that his "Akka" (sister) is stressed because she had a lot of things to do—besides, she was a "climate champion," a "social warrior," and an "LGBTQ activist." But, the point at which conversation turns is when Atharv nonchalantly says, "They are worried."
Of course, Srikant being baffled by this asks, "Who else is worried?" thinking that the answer would be a list of people. When Atharv informs "Dhriti equals They,"
Bajpayee's reaction changes from nothing but total confusion to complete disbelief. He sarcastically says, "Dhriti Tiwari thi na? When did she become 'they'?" It is a peak point of bewilderment that parents from both Millennial and Gen X generations can understand all too well.
Atharv does his best to convince his father that the new generation follows different grammar rules by telling him that Dhriti uses "they/them" rather than "she/her". Also, he even provides instances like "They are going to college" instead of "She is going to college".
But Srikant only wants to know why. Reason? Atharv tells her that she did it because she wanted to be a non-binary person's supporter. At the end of the video, the defeated Srikant is seen staring blankly as Atharv completes the lesson. It’s a humorous, lighthearted generation gap moment which shows that parenting a Gen Z kid is indeed a secret mission!
