Given the gloominess of late, we think she is mostly trying to bring back a grin to Kaveri's face. She is trying to make everything appear perfect by dashing around with lights and tinsel.
It's not just carols and decorations, though. Arman is obviously under great tension. Even if he values Abhira's work, our observation is that the stress of the company's circumstances is dragging him down and he is battling to switch off his "work mode." Honestly, he seems exhausted.
Abhira tries to divert him from his documents in a sweet but brief moment, but the reality of their professional battle continually crawls back in. It's like they are celebrating on thin ice.
As usual, the other members of the family have varied responses. While others stand aside with that characteristic Poddar judgment, some of them are getting in the fun. In this episode, Ruhi's presence felt rather weighty; she's watching Arman and Abhira and you can just sense the enduring tension there.
Abhira keeps pushing for a full-on celebration all day and even persuades the youngsters to assist her. Her way of battling the melancholy hanging above the family.
The turning point is when the subject of the Poddar company's destiny is raised once more. For a second, it kills the holiday spirit. Arman gets a call that seems somewhat severe; you can observe the change in his body language.
Though his thoughts are certainly elsewhere, he is trying to be present for Abhira's birthday celebration. Given that everyone else is so preoccupied with the turmoil and the losses they have suffered, we think it's very difficult for Abhira to maintain her "happy one."
The scene comes to an end with the Christmas tree at last being lighted, which was a lovely sight; Kaveri's face, nevertheless, indicates that a tree is not enough to solve the ingrained problems.
