One of the legends of Bollywood, the "He-Man" of Indian cinema, Dharmendra, died on November 24, 2025, at 89. The news of his death spread like wildfire throughout India, and the whole country grieved the passing of a luminary. After a prolonged struggle with health issues, Dharmendra breathed his last at his home in Mumbai. The whole film industry, along with his fans and friends, is grieving his demise.
Dharmendra got his first break in Bollywood with "Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere" in 1960. Later, for 60 years, he played the leading man in more than 300 movies, making him one of the most famous actors. Dharmendra was a perfect one for the job when it came to either a tough action hero or a lovely romantic hero and he was loved by the audience for films like "Sholay," "Chupke Chupke," and "Phool Aur Patthar." His magnetic attraction to the audience and his ability to do any kind of role made him the most lovable star of Indian cinema.
In the last few days, Dharmendra was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai due to breathing problems. He was allowed to go home for rest and recuperation but his health was still very weak. When the star left this world, an ambulance was seen departing from his home as the people close to him came to have a last glimpse of the great one. Many well-known personalities from the film industry came to the funeral.
He was a film star, but more than that, he represented the qualities of discipline and strength. He was still going strong with his acting career in his 80s and was seen in "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" and the upcoming "Ikkis" movies. No one could do what he did in terms of amazingly different roles and at the same time, having a connection with the audience of any age group. In recognition of his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2012.
The family that consists of his wife Hema Malini and sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, was his support during the tough times. Mourners in the film industry led the tribute with Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan among others at the funeral, honoring Dharmendra’s towering legacy. Fans from different parts of the globe have been using different social media platforms to convey their sorrow and recall their times with the legend who was a generation in himself.
With the death of Dharmendra, Bollywood is losing one of its brightest chapters of the past.
His charming nature, strong support, and ageless great performances have made a permanent mark not only on Indian cinema but on the whole of Indian culture. It’s true that he isn’t physically here anymore but his filmmaking spirit is alive through his immortal movies and the legion of fans he won by his artistic excellence.
