An Epic Tale of Friendship and Resilience
Homebound is the story of two friends from childhood, Mohammad Shoaib Ali and Chandan Kumar, who come from a small village in North India and dream of joining the police force to change their lives by raising them.
However, the issues of society, such as severe social pressures, religious and caste discrimination, and poverty, not only challenge their friendship but also aspirations. Set during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film depicts their fight with personal demons, awaiting exam results nervously, and undertaking a hard journey back to their village during the lockdown. Their story helps the film deliver the powerful themes of hope, resilience, and the struggle against systemic discrimination.
Prominent Presence at the Film Festivals
The movie can less be doubted to have been a major contender of the 2025 worldwide film festivals. Homebound was graced with its world premiere at the renowned Cannes Film Festival in May, and the audience there gave it a long and energetic standing ovation. Its great success at Cannes, however, was not the only thing: in August, the film was the closing night feature of the Melbourne International Film Festival and in September, it secured a very prestigious place in the Gala Presentation section of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). By far, it made a firm position among the top most Indian films of the year in terms of significance and critical acclaim.
